As a physician, I suggest a thorough examination...rectal, blood work, EKG, etc...but unless you have any symptoms you should be safe for several years...yes, frequent exams are good, but are expensive. Pay attention to your body and symptoms such as weight loss (or gain), color of stool, skin color, blood clotting time (from razor cut etc....does it take long to clot) irregular heart beat, shortness of breath, etc...once you are 45, I do suggest a prostate exam yearly and thereafter a routine health check.

A lot depends on family history. If your family has genetic disposition to certain diseases, you should have more regular examinations. Similarly, if you have family history of heart disease or stroke, particularly at young age, then you should be checked out.

Otherwise, until you are 50, a full physical by your GP is recommended every other year.

Some tests, such as PSA, can be misleading at your age; but again, if there is any history of early prostate cancer in your family this test should be done. At 40, you should start having a regular DRE (Digital Rectal Examination) to determine any changes in the prostate. After 50, PSA tests should be a regular part of your workup.
