My baby is 9 months and sings "dada" all day long but has yet to pronounce "mama". It doesn't bother me, but it would be nice to hear mama. I understand that at this age, she cannot yet form her lips to make the "mmm" sound. I sit her in front of me and slowly say "MMMMaaaammmaaaaa." She tries. She sits there and concentrates on my lips, but she cannot figure out how to fold her lips to say "mmmm." So I understand. I'm a proud mama for her to at least try, and plus I'm patient. No worries, no rush. She'll get the hang of it eventually. Just make sure you help her along and practice with her. Your day will come soon, just as I'm sure mine will :-)

My 8 month old boy says mama. He started with baba and dada. Mama is harder to say.

Babies say what their parents say. My baby only says I love you...no mama or dada. So have people refer to you as Mama until she catches on. Like I call my hubby Daddy when the kids are around and he calla me Mama.

its most common for children to say dada first because its easy to say with the daaa. mmm is abit harder for them. with my son i used to put my lips against his and say mummum mum mum. or mama mama. she will soon get there im sure. just talking to her alot about anything u are doing.. like mama is washing up, mama is cleaning things like that :)

speed it up? she says dada and you feel jealous already? Wait until she goes to her father for everything as she grows up.

Give it time and be patient. Its easier for babies to say the D sound much earlier than the M sound.

My son's physical therapist told me to put my mouth on his hand or on his cheeck and say mama, then that way he can feel how it's supposed to feel when he says it. three days later he said mama now he won't stop. ;) GOOD LUCK and be patient.

That's not unusual. The "D" sound is easier for some reason than the "M" sound. All you can do is repeat it as often as it doesn't drive you nuts and wait. My son called me "that" for the longest time. (Anything he couldn't say or didn't know the name of was "that.") But he said "dad" that whole time. Now he calls me "mommy." It just takes time.

You have to show her over and over how to make the mmmm sound...it is a difficult one for younguns. When she makes the mmm sound for you....applaud that! It will come, Mom...be patient.
