It has nothing to do with blood. It's a contraction for the old "By Our Lady" and is considered to be as emphatic as our F-word.

What's with all those other responses? No help at all, are they?

Well, personally, I don't believe the UK people have an infatuation with blood. They're normal people like you and me.

Perhaps, in their history and ancestry, their ancestors might've been in war and notioned to anything 'wicked' or 'amazing' or anything that needed to be emphazied...they referred to as, 'bloody'.

(i.e. Bloody awesome!)

Actually the word has nothing to do with blood. Pious christians take note. The word bloody is a corruption of "By Our Lady", a Roman Catholic oath.

It's more seen as an Australian term now, though the Poms do use it a lot as well.

Dunno how it originated... It's just something you say... If you want to say a nastier word. You know which one I mean.

BLoody came from smushing the words "by our Lady" together. Lady referring to the queen. and they don't use it that often.
