TV isn't always reality.
But the idea is that the person who wanted the murder to be completed is at least as worthy of punishment as the contract killer, from a criminal justice standpoint. So, if it requires knocking a few years off one person's sentence to convict the other, that's worth it.
For suicide, the contract killer would be charged with assisted suicide if the facts came out, and murder if they just admitted to the killing without the additional facts. So, it becomes a question of which is the greater potential harm to society -- the person who wants to die, or the person who kills for money.

It is considered murder. If caught, the killer would be arrested for first degree murder. There would be no deal made since it is clear cut.
Note to one of the other answerers, suicide is illegal. You can be convicted of it unless proven insane. It is a class C Felony.
As to the reason a person would hire a killer to kill themselves? Well, how about making sure their family gets the insurance money. Or, too chicken to do it themselves. Or, perhaps they want the final thrill.

The one who pulls the trigger (does the act of killing) and the one who plots to kill both will be taken to the law. Because even plotting a murder (without having done it) is also a crime. So considereing your question in which the killer is hired to kill Tim (example) and Tim dies, then the hired killer will be hanged, or imprisonment for life. In case Tim survives, he too will be taken and imprisoned. Killing the a civilian according to law is punishable (u are a civilian, being killed -- by yourself!!), now if you kill youself it is equivalent to killing another, but there will be therapy for one as that.

Contract killer still commited murder either way. Look at the trouble Dr Kevorkian got into just for helping dying people commit suicide.

Hiring a contract to killer to kill anyone (including yourself) is conspiracy to commit murder for you and the killer.
If the killer actually kills you, that conspiracy ripens to murder (though there are still two crimes, the actual murder and the conspiracy, conspiracy does not merge). You would still be guilty of murder, but as you are dead, not much can be done about it, besides any financial (insurance, wills, etc.) ramifications.

darn ... I would of never even thought about that ... thats a good question. But no, if you hired someone to kill you, they would be the ones charged with murder. But then again, you also got the peeps that will claim that it is Assisted Suicide, which is also still considered murder in most areas.

It's probably considered both. Murder for the contracted killer. Suicide ruling so you dont get insurance benefits. But it sounds like it should be considered "stupid".

if you hired a contract killer to kill you, then i guess the police couldn't do anything to you because suicide isn't illegal. the contract killer would still be committing murder so they wouldn't strike a deal with him because if he gives you up, it doesn't help the police at all.

If I hired someone to kill me, and the cops found the person who did it, then I would think they would have to try that person for murder. He would have no bargaining chips, the person who hired him is dead.
