I have tried all the meds docs have prescribed, including Zelnorm.Nothing works.Though a cure would be nice,I'm just looking for something to relieve the pain and discomfort,at least enough to let me have somewhat of a normal life.My type of IBS is with constipation, not diarrhea.

I suggest all-natural Optiflora which treats the cause and not just the symptoms.

This two-product system uses new technology to protect beneficial microflora during the rigors of shipping, storage, and the acidic journey through your stomach. Other products claim live microflora at the time of manufacture. Optiflora guarantees the delivery of live microflora to your colon.

This two-product system includes Probiotic (Bifidus & Acidophilus...microflora) + Prebiotic (FOS...food source for microflora). Patented guaranteed delivery of 500 million microflora to intestines.

My daughter-in-law and church friend has colitis and this has helped them tremendously.

Hope this is useful and feel free to contact me with questions.

Unfortunately, there is no universal treatment for IBS. For constipation, I recommend adding water-soluble fiber to your diet. The fiber will trap water in stool; thereby, softening the stool and relieving constipation. You can find water-soluble fiber in whole grain cereal or bread. Other good sources are vegetable, such as celery, broccoli and leafy vegetables. You can also ask your doctor to prescribe Colace or Seneca, which are both stool softeners. Another thing you might want to ask your doctor is if an antidepressant would be helpful for you. Many IBS patients respond very well to antidepressants and report drastic improvement in symptoms. Taking antidepressants does not mean you are depressed by rather there is an emotional component to IBS. When IBS sufferers feel that they are becoming bloated or their stomaches feels sour, they become very anxious which makes the symptoms worse and it is a domino effect. The antidepressants calms the nerve and controls the anxiety. On the alternative medicine side, IBS patients report meditation and biofeedback really helps. Don't knock it. You would be surprised how well it works.

there are meds avail by prescription for this condition. I have it but won't take any meds as they all have side effects. Also most are useful for either constipation part or the diarrhea part. I tend to go from one to the other and don't want to be switching off/on meds. Home remedies, I use if constipated is to drink lots of fluids, use a small glycerine suppository, which doesn't have to go thru entire system or in case of diarrhea, eat bland foods such as white rice, potato, etc. and still drink plenty of fluids.

I am a pharmacist and I have 'cured' 8 or 9 people of IBS symptoms with Peppermint Plus by Enzymatic Therapy.
Some people get relief by drinking monavie juice. Probiotics are also very helpful. Chek with your local health food store.

I take at least a 30min walk almost every day, eat at least 1 small salad and drink 40 -70 oz of water a day. Since doing this, I have noticed quite a difference.

the only thing that ever helped my ibs was not eating when I am stressed out. I am kind of skinny, but I am not in pain all the time.If I know I am going to be stressed out, like if your visiting someone who stresses you out- I plan in advance- drink lots of tea, esp.senna tea (two days before, and eat very light)

more fiber and liquids in your diet. More vegetables and fruits. Try eating a banana everyday, and drink lots of water, less fat intake. May take time, these meds just "mask" your real problem.
