Tv has enhanced my life. I watch a lot of news so I am more informed and knowledgeable than I otherwise would be, plus I've been able to watch historic events unfold live which is a major plus.

I also watch a lot of medical-educational programming. Before I had children and became a stay at home mom, I had been accepted to the surgical technology program in college. I chose my children over school, the program, and a career however, and these shows allow me to learn and actually witness those things I might not otherwise see since I'm not in that field. This will be beneficial when I go back to working towards my goal after my children are grown.

Television has also enhanced my life by entertaining me. We do not have much in the way of funds for extras such as nights out or eating out or whatever. We can't afford to do much. But the TV is right there for when I need a break.

TV did enhance my life, for many reasons:

1- I really learned English (my second language) mostly by watching TV. Though I did learn it at school, hearing real English-speakers on TV developped my pronuncitaion, improved my understanding and my vocabulary.

2- TV opened my horizons on the world. With digital cable, I can get American channels, but also some French channels (my first language) that carry shows from Europe. The news in France present events in a very different manner.

3- I developped interests in some TV shows that made me discover other hobbies that I can pursue elsewhere (i.e not sitting in front of the TV).

I would say it has enhanced our lives (referring to the members of this household) because we haven't allowed television or its programming to become the centrifugal force in our house. The children are allowed up to one hour of viewing each day, and an occasional movie, but because they have not become dependent on it for entertainment, they more often than not go find something else to do.

My husband and I watch the news and weather most frequently (oh my gosh we've turned into our grandparents already!) and also enjoy a movie a few times a week. But again, because it's not a focal point of our evenings, we are much more comfortable reading books, conversing, or pursuing a hobby.

All of us enjoy watching educational shows like those on Discovery, History Television, and A&E. We would miss television if it was suddenly unavailable, but wouldn't be unable to replace it with more traditional mediums like newspapers, radio, or trips to the library - all of which we use more than television as it is.

I've learnt a lot of information by watching TV, but overall, watching TV has negated the very purpose of life. One can easily become a zombie with his/her attention drawn into that of a fantasy land. I feel that sitting in front of the TV should be treated as an (limited time) activity rather than a "lifestyle". So, I am leaning more to the side of making it less productive or "worse", to more directly answer your question, but typically I don't like to use such strong terms.

I'd say enhanced. TV has allways been medicinal in my life. When things have been hard on me it's been there constant and unjudging. When my life is slow and I need something to keep me out of trouble TV was there. TV has educted me in a lot of respects allthought I would have gotten more out of it if I had someone to mentor me through watching TV as a child and help me sort out what lessons were not so wise. Food Network taught me how to carve a Thanksgiving Turkey and grill chicken. Most of my outbound interrests be it Industrial Music, theology or, German food and culture stemmed from something I saw on TV.

It makes it worse. I do not watch much TV with my children becasue there is so little they can learn from the TV anymore.
There are very few shows that actually enhance a persons knowledge and teach good values. I do not want to teach my children violence, swearing and lude behaviour. They will unfortuneately learn all that soon enough.

Worse. It hinders my motivation to do very much and allows me to space out and not think about anything that is of any importance, an escape, if you will. However, I had my cable shut off last month and I kinda got used to not having TV so when I got it turned back on I watch it a little less because I kinda forget its back.

Television has enhanced my life. But I don't watch the fictional BS offered today. I only watch news, comedy, home improvement, or financial shows. I don't bother with all that other crap.

I guess I would have to say it's made it worse considering that I get behind on work because I'm constantly reading about my favorite shows or watching clips etc.

But I still love TV!

TV enhances one's life if one *choses* when and what to watch. If one watches TV out of habit, it idles our time and wastes a lot of quality time communicating with families and/or friends.
The difference is whether we use TV, or TV uses us.
