Give the person life, for many reasons:
1. If you give them life, they have to think about what they did. Live in the prision system watching they back so they dont' get anally raped. Be without some of the basic things that we take for granted, etc. It's a fitting punishment to let them suffer as opposed to a quick death.
2. It costs americans a lot less to have them on life then on the death penalty. I know it sounds backwards, but once you consider the court costs of appeals, over the many years before they actualy get on death row, the many trials, and the actual event. Overall if an innmate lives to be 90 when they got into prision at 20 it would cost the taxpayers less money to give them life then kill them.
3. We have to many innocent people that are given the death penalty. now, we can never give them back their time that they spent in prisoin... But, we can at least let them live their life out instead of finding out ten years after their dead. I would rather not have an innocent person dead and have ten guilty ones living in prision so that by chance that they are innocent that they are not dead and able to live what's left of their lives by that point.

This has been a great debate. I struggle with this one myself. I don't believe anyone or any government has the right to end a person's life, whether it come from crime or punishment. Although, murder is an atrocious crime and the death penalty makes a good deturrant for that. It is not fair that a murderer can take someone's life and be able to go on living, but maybe that is a greater punishment if they are regretful about it. I don't believe tax payers should have to pay for the housing & meals for murderers either. I guess I am more for putting them to death. What good are they to society if they just rot away in jail from hard working law-abiding citizen's money?

I realize that there have been people on death row that have been totally innocent. I'm glad that we now have DNA testing that can help solve not just the cases of today, but even from years and years ago. When there is DNA evidence, it's pretty easy to prove or disprove a case against someone, not to mention all the other technology they have for investigating crimes now.
People aren't sent to death row and killed right away. They do have the opportunity and chance to exhaust all of their appeals. That's why we have people on death row for so long. Every State is different, but you do still have the chance to appeal.
There are cold blooded murders out there that have not only admitted to their crimes, but all evidence points to them, and I'm sorry, but I simply have no sympathy for them. Take Richard Allen Davis who killed 12 year old Polly Klass. This bastard has no remorse for what he did to that precious little girl. He killed that child and has laughed about it, taunted her family through the hearing, and had a history of molesting children. Maybe if the laws would have been tougher on Mr. Davis after he was caught molesting his first young victim, Polly never would have died. So I have no pitty for this animal as he sits on death row. I feel if they don't kill him, the day may come that he could get out, rather by the courts or by escapting, and kill another child. Why should he be allowed to breath everyday? Polly can't. Why should he be allowed to eat? Polly can't. Why should he be allowed to visit with family, laugh, cry and go on with his life, even if it is behind bars, when Polly can't do any of that either. The only way Polly's family can visit with her is at her grave. I just don't see jail, even if they spend the rest of their life in a tiny cell, being equal to what some of thes people have done to their victims. It's hard enough to imagine knowing your going to die at the hands of a psychopath, but imagine being a child and knowing that? I look at my own children and I wonder how anyone could ever hurt a child, and I just feel if that's a decision you make, you should be ready to pay with your own life for your actions.
Perhaps if we were faced with this personally, rather were the family member of the victim that was killed, or the family member of the death row inmate, our answers might be different. People who believe in the death penalty may change their mind if it's now their loved who is facing execution, and people who thought it was wrong to sentence someone to death, no matter how horrible the crime, may find their self in support of Capital Punishment if their loved one has been murdered. But for now, I strongly feel at the very least any child killer should suffer death. And if that makes me evil, then fine.

The only problem I have with the Death Penalty is that there have been many innocent people put to death. I think they should just be left in jail.

What are you trying to achieve with this question because the way it is worded makes no sense. If someone is tried and convicted and given the death penalty, then they should be put to death after there appeals are exhausted. I think you are trying to get peoples opinion on the death penalty? If so you should just come out and ask that.

i think that they should suffer in jail to my opinion...but i do not agree with the death penalty...it is sad..i have a son that was sentenced to 30 years when he was 18 years old...he is still not out and he will not even write me anymore..it hurts me so bad...they should of gave him a chance since he was just at the scene of the crime when another boy shot 2 people...i do not condone the act at all...but this destroyed many peoples lives...

Depends on the crime. Somnetimes suffering through life in jail and then going to hell is better for the criminal. If someone killed my hubby and all my kids. I want them to have the death penalty!!Keeping people in jail for life costs all of us $$$ to feed and clothe these criminals

Depends do you want your tax money to pay for him to be in prison for life or do you want your tax moneyto go to something useful? In the state I live in it pays more to house each inmate than it pays the CO's the protect the public from the inmates.
