--Is Catholic--

The answer is A and B. As the Middle Ages started (around 10th century AD)at the close of the Dark ages (5th-10th century AD) and progressed the Church grew in power but by the close of the Middle Ages (15th century) , the Church had lost a lot of her political power through the activities of the nation states of Europe, especially France, and the corruption within the Church.

Charlemagne is Dark Ages so we rule that answer out.
Luther is either classified as Renaissance or "Reformation Age" so that answer is also ruled out.
