My FAVORITE movie of all time, which is also pre-1960 is Casablanca. Movies have never matched that again, in my opinion.

* Casablanca: The best script ever!
* The Bicycle Thief: 'Cinema Paradiso' and 'Life is Beautiful' are rubbish compared to this Italian classic
* The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari: Twisted, dark and weird and emotive Tim Burton, take a bow!
* Modern Times: Chaplin at it's best
* The Maltese Falcon: Great mystery, intrigue, wonderful characters and opening doors
* Seven Samurai: All an action adventure film needs

This is a show, Car 54 - I had a dream about it before I woke up this morning and I have no idea why. Must be wayyyy back in my subconscious since I had forgotten it ever existed. All I remember is "Car 54 where are youuuuu/" Very strange!!!! Anyway the show was from around 1960 but I was only 2 then.

Alot of the 50s "cold war" influenced Sci-Fi flicks were great, even though they may seem completelly out of place in today's world.
THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL is a classic which has to be seen at least once.
THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD is also a good sci-fi effort of the 50s, but also has a few flaws.
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, which was remade at least twice after that (1978, 1990), but still has it's unique taste.
FORBIDDEN PLANET which features a young Leslie Neilson in a role we never saw him do after 1982's "Creepshow". This film ("F.P.") is perhaps one of the most influencial sci-fi films of the era, with its sets and special effects which were the top of the line at the time. If you watch it, check out the 2:35 widescreen version; monumental!
Cheers

Nothing is better than "Its a Wonderful Life".
You can feel the agony in Stewart's face when he prays to God in the bar.
And the end? "To my Big Brother George, The Richest Man in Town". God DAMN that makes me bawl like a baby every year!
And "The Wizard of Oz" of course.
