Allendale here, halfway between Grand Rapids and Lake Michigan (about 15 miles west of Grand Rapids).

It is a great city, and beautiful area. Downtown Grand Rapids is quite vibrant, with shops, arenas, etc. And, it is growing fast, there are buildings going up all over downtown.

Outside of town, there are a lot of recreational activities, including great beaches at Grand Haven, Holland, Saugatuck, and elsewhere.

Which college?

I'm not from Grand Rapids (live just outside Detroit) but my best friend lives in Rockford, which is just northwest of Grand Rapids. It has come back a long way and is REALLY starting to look nice since Dick DeVos, the Meijer family, and the Van Andel family (remember Amway?) started turning the city around. The traffic on I-96 and the Belt Line can get pretty hectic during rush hour, but on the whole the greater Grand Rapids area is very nice and I think you'll enjoy living there. Lots to do and you don't have to go far if you want to get out of the "city" and into the "country."

I'm not from there, but I know some people that live there. My cousin lives there because she is going to Western Michigan. She loves it. Coming from a small po-dunk town heading to the big city was s big shock (so she said), but you get settled in and used to life there. Good Luck in school. I am also going back to school but It my second year and I commute from home to College.

I personally don't live there, but I have a friend who does and she seems to like it. I also had a few who went to school out that way and they liked it there. I can't give you more specifics since I've never been out there. Good luck in school!
