In Nigeria, many elected office holder are always seen to have rigged their way to any of the position they are occupying and it has also been noticed that elecions are not always done in Nigeria successfully without crises and at the end of the day, one person will be anoucesed to have won. In 1999, I voted for a party / candidate in one of the Nigeria states and at the end of the day, the party and the candidate was said to have no vote in that state and in my word, no vote was decleared invalied.

There are several reasons:

1. Because they can get away with it when the ppl are powerless and all the ppl in charge are corrupt.

2. Because most of the time the winning politician has been selected to win YEARS before the actual election. It is niave to believe that these guys come out of nowhere and win. They are picked years before and pruned for the position. I am saying they are OWNED.

3. Once the powerful get their guy into office, they will go to any extreme to keep him there.

The same thing has been happening in the USA over the past 6 years. It is very sad because this teaches our children that dishonestly will get you power and is the only way to win.

Because those in power want to remain in power.

We do the same thing here in the US, but we generally use more subtle means like redrawing voting districts to maximize effectiveness, and using elected office to advance agendas more designed to get people re-elected than to serve the constituents.

So, same process, just different methods. Most of the time.

You are missing a vital point that politics are controlled by money and therefore citizens are not very important to the election process....As politicians have said in America....it was the cheapest election I ever bought. Believe it in Nigeria or other countries too.

Why? Cheaters like to win and have no regard for the rights of others. Too few of them are caught and prosecuted. They should be fined and jailed for their crimes. Some dead people and pet animals "vote" in America, which is why law-abiding citizens and legislators are insisting on proper voter identification.

People rig elections for money, power, control, and because they are crooked.
