There r two options with u.
Either to use ur pic or use ur avatar. If u want to use ur avatar. Visit http://avatar.yahoo.com Make ur avatar there and save it. Or u bring the icon of avatar on ur yahoo toolbar. To do so cilck the pencil, select personal options, select add edit button and check the box of avatar and then click finished. It will bring the icon of avatar on ur yahoo toolbar which can be used by u anytime as per ur convenience.
Secondly, to use a pic, u need to hv 360 page. Visit http://360.yahoo.com to create ur 360 page and upload ur photo there. Make sure that u set ur photo to be primary photo which u want to use on yahoo answers. After doing these things, come back on ur yahoo answers profile. Here u click edit info and then click either the circle of using ur pic or the circle of using ur avatar. Now click the preview and save. It will solve ur problem.

Go Yahoo! Avatar and change ur avatar and click Save Changes below ur avatar.

You can use a regular cartoon avatar or choose to use your own picture.
If you want to use one of the cartoon 'avatars' then it's a two step process
1) Create your avatar
You can go here, http://answers.yahoo.com/my/my_edit
And in the "Picture" section, click on the "Edit my Yahoo! avatar" link
2) Display your avatar on Answers
You can go here, http://answers.yahoo.com/my/my_edit
in the Picture section, select "Use My Yahoo Avatar"
And, lastly, have a little patience. It is being reported by some users that the changes do not take effect immediately. They don't see the avatar option in Answers for a day or two.

If you want to use some other pic or a photo, then this requires a 360 account and this is a 3 step process.
1) You'll need to create your Yahoo! 360 account. http://360.yahoo.com
NOTE: Currently, you have to be 18 or older to get a 360 account.
So far, this is the only option if you want to use some other picture or photo.
The only three options for pics you have on your Answers profile is no pic, Yahoo avatar, or 360 picture.
2) You'll need to upload one or more pictures to your 360 page.
On your 360 page, select "My Page" from the top
Select "Edit Personal Photos" on the left hand side
Browse to your saved photo(s) (assuming you have one or more ready) to upload it.

Select the "Set as Primary" button next to the photo want displayed on other sites (like Answers) and select "Save"
3) You'll need to display your 360 picture on Answers
Go to your "My Q&A" page, select "Edit My Info"

log onto your yahoo email, when you get there in the middle of the screen where it says how much unread mail and bulk there is in you mail box, there will be a picture of your avatar or a gray box. click on the grey box and you will be able to change your avatar. just follow the directions or just look around. and remember to save it after you have what you want. hope you will understand this.

Go to yahoo messenger homepage and you will find a button to click so it can change your avatar.

Go to da avatar site make a new avatar or click on already existin diff avatar n then u hv a small column under it as show all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about clicking edit??? Then click apply and okay after the changes are made...can't be too hard!!
