Lost my dad 2 years ago and my dog of 12 years 2 months ago. Sometimes I'll get in states of mind like everything just feels "off" or weird to me. My mind will start to race and I'll scare myself basically. Asking existential questions which obviously have no answer. Then I distract myself and it goes away. I've had panic attacks when my dad died, but it never gets to that level anymore since I calm myself down when I feel it coming on. Just wish the anxiety would go away. Is there anything I can do more than calm down?

Sounds perfectly normal to me. Sorry for your loss. Every person have different ways to deal with losses, you seem to be doing just fine. When you see it coming, do some breathing exercises such as deep breathing, etc.; and think something positive.

I read this profound message from this doctor, I thought it's very inspirational, hope it helps:

May God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

I get the same feelings sometimes, and the only way I've ever been able to shed them is with distraction. Somtimes things just feel creepy, or like there is some underlying danger nearby. Recently had panic attacks, too. I wish I new how to shed these problems, but I am clueless on the matter.

It is normal sometimes, but what you are describing sounds to me like clinical depression. You have emotions that you are refusing to deal with and this can come back later with mental, emotional, and even physical problems. If you are having real trouble dealing with these things, you may need to get professional help. The psychiatrist/psychologist will be there mainly to show you how to bring those feelings up and deal with them. Go to your normal doctor, if he sees this also as a sign of clinical depression, he should be able to refer you to someone professional. And if I'm wrong, which is certainly possible considering I'm not a doctor, well at least you'll feel better knowing you don't have a situation like clinical depression.

Considering the circumstances, the feelings are quite normal. But since it seems to be worrying you, try to see a counsellor.

Good luck!
