Unless you are gifted with an incredible retentive ability, you will have to put forth extra effort. My brother-in-law shared something a high school teacher told him. He was barely getting by as a "C" student. His teacher said to get an "A" in any given class, devote twice the amount of time of the class to studying each night. If your class is one hour long, study for two hours. It did well for my brother-in-law as he now seems to have an almost photographic memory.

Obviously, allocating several hours every night to studying doesn't work well for most adults who have jobs and families to support.

For food recommendation, it is not enough to consider one or two foods to help, but if you are serious enough about this, I recommend seeing a nutritionist to examine your full dietary habits and make recommendations. Even if you add Omega 3 fish oils (purported to aid with concentration), you may be eating/drinking something else that will counteract the effect of the fish oil.

Study when you're active during the day. Try to avoid all-nighters, and find a quiet place without distraction. Have everything you might need (pens, pencils, references, notes, etc.) with you BEFORE you start studying, so you won't waste time looking for them.

This is different for each person, but take a break after you've studied for some time. Forty five minutes, for example, then take a ten minute break to stretch, have a snack, etc.

And also, after each day from your course, go through ALL your notes and review. The more you refresh yourself on the material, the easier it will be for you to study and concentrate.

Try to think of something good or that you like about the subject and become as enthusiastic about it as you can. Someone else once said that can work and they were in college at the time and had to read some.

I hate to admit it, but caffeine is the savior of the serious college student. I became addicted to the stuff in my freshman year. I studied little and did well. Thank God professors allow you to drink coffee in class.
