Or should I assume that the abnormal result is something different?

No.
A smear test only looks at cells fro the cervix and vagina.
To make a diagnosis of an ovarian cyst, or a fibroid, you would need either an abdominal ultrasound scan, or a transvaginal ultrasound scan. Obviously, the other way of making a diagnosis for these two conditions would be a laparoscopy (a small surgical procedure where the doctor looks at your pelvic organs with a small telescope, inserted just below your tummy button).
If your fibroid is a reasonable size, you may be able to feel it yourself...certainly a doctor would be able to feel it on bimanual pelvic examination. If you do have a fibroid, you may get symptoms such as heavy, painful periods-but this is not an exclusive symtom, and may be a sign of something else. Shouild you be suffering from an ovarian cyst, you may get thinning of your hair, and a lot a pelvic pain, particularly if the cyst gets twisted.
Your best option would be to see your doctor, and tell him or her about all of your symtoms, and get examined.

Yes, for me did because my periods were so unpredictable. That is why it came up, (abnormal.) They also did an ultra sound on me. Fibroid and ovarian cyst's showed up. I was in my forty's . It was then that I had to decide to have a hysterectomy. That threw me into menopause within 24 hours after the surgery, WOW! I wouldn't worry about it because it could be very well something else......just don't be afraid to ask your doctor about it. Only they know for sure and they can do something about it. I would not wait!

just because you have had an abnormal test doesn't mean that there is anything wrong, there can be a lot of reasons for this, sometimes it can just be a mistake made by the person testing it. and even if they are abnormal it isn't the end of the world cause there are lots of things that hospitals can do now

I had one once and the reason was an ovarian cyst, I was rechecked at 6 mos tho and it was mormal. I also had an abnormal pap right after my son was born and she rechecked it 6 weeks later and it was normal. Its not always a bad thing, but it is scary. Im sure you will be fine! Good luck!!

Uterine fibroids are usually not dangerous, but can cause immense discomfort and lead to complications like anemia from heavy blood loss. In rare cases, they may cause complications that affect pregnancy.

In cases where there are no symptoms, treatment may not be necessary. However, proper diagnosis and treatment may be required if your symptoms are severe or causing complications. Along with conventional treatment, you can try some natural home remedies. Read here https://tr.im/k4wkZ

Straight answer: no. But 'abnormal' is not necessarily a disaster depending on the degree of abnormality...............best thing is to consult your doctor. Hope everything turns out OK. Most likely it will.
