The progressive gradual rise of the earth's surface temperature thought to be caused by the greenhouse effect and responsible for changes in global climate patterns. An increase in the near surface temperature of the Earth. Global warming has occurred in the distant past as the result of natural influences, but the term is most often used to refer to the warming predicted to occur as a result of increased emissions of greenhouse gases.

Wikipedia has great graphs on the average temperature, check on those.

Part of the problem with global warming, is that climate changes over long times, it is not like Washington and Paris are going to turn to deserts over the next year, but the heat in Europe (to put an example) last longer and has higher temperatures than in the past, the rain patterns change, "el niño" and "la niña" ocean currents change with different frequency and many more things.

Now, climate has always changed, there was a time when Iran and Irak were as green as California and you don't see many trees out there now in the news, the problem is that if the global overall temperature rises, there will be more desertic lands, there will be more rain in the Ecuador, more hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico, more tornados in Oklahoma, etc. It is not a Biblical plague, but it certainly is not good for the people living in places with harsh weather and for global economics in general.

Unfortunately, the quick buck for many corporations is much more important than long term considerations and there is relatively little being done about it, i think there is more research in aviary flu than in global warming and it may be questioned witch is more important.

I can tell you what it means, But I am not going to prove to you is happening or something like that.. Global warming means that so much carbon dioxide is produce that it makes the Heat grow in intensity. Pine trees provide too much Carbon Dioxide, Poison Ivy grows more poisonous because the high levels of Carbon Dioxide in the environment.. In short the more we breath the hotter is going to get... If you come to think about it that is one of the prophecies of the bible.. When the Sun will get Hotter and hotter in the last days...

Here is the Planet Earth,
Outside is the Sun,
You take away the Atmosphere that covers, shields and protect the Earth,
And the Sun rays will penetrate directly in the Earth without any protection

it is a phenomenon in which there is a progressive rise in the temperature of the earth surface. this is due to a lot of reasons...... toxic gases ike chloro fluro carbons mainly present in aerosols.. the depletion of the ozone layer... and basically due to the polution levels.... eg.. rise in temperature in a room made of glass.. ie green house effect
