The only real Americans are the BLACKS because we came here first from Africa 20,000 years ago.
It has been proven that a black man fishing off the West coast of Africa in a small dugout boat can drift to North America in 45 days.
This scenario has been played out thousands of times with boats carrying the first inhabitants of North America.

A real American is a person who cares about this country enough to voice his concerns about its wrongdoing.
A real American is a person who loves this country and is not afraid of working hard to make it a better nation.
A real American is a person who understands the values on which this country was founded.
A real American is a person who is so open minded to the truth behind those hidden enemies whom destroying the country form within.
A real American is a person who does not follow a certain agenda blindfolded without questioning the leaders' actions.
A real American who is always seeking the truth and could never settle for some carefully constructed speeches.

Are you asking for the legal or the patriotic term?
An American needs not be born in the US, needs not be a white Christian, needs not be anything other than a US Citizen.
Before anyone freaks out about them not being true Americans - you are saying that children of soldiers born overseas while their parents were serving are not Americans? People who legally immigrated and brought their children with are not Americans?
Patriotically, an American is someone who loves America, loves the Constitution, and is for the rights of everyone, not just their own class of people. An American believes in equality, free enteprise, and fairness.

Everyone who doesn't blindly follow some ideology that is indoctrinated by the GOP or the PNAC (which for the most parts is the same).
A real American is who questions his government and doesn't take everything for face value.
A real American is someone who thinks for him/herself.
A real American is who values the spirit and the principles of our founding fathers who would roll in their graves when they would be subjected to the abuse of their ideals as we witness it today.
A real American doesn't even have to be a citizen as long as he/she adheres to the principles of freedom. Not freedom of the body (to grow in any direction you want) but more so freedom of the mind. Freedom of expression and the freedom of dissent.
I am sad to discover that there are only few real Americans left.
