Literally, as soon as it's dark, when I'm driving I drop. I chug mass caffeine, but what else could it be and how might I "cure" it?

the common suggested remedies are turning up your radio way loud and/or rolling down your windows, the fresh air is suppose to keep you awake.

Is this right after work? I find that after work, sitting in my car is the first place I get to relax, therefore, I get really tired. Driving at night in general can make you sleepy because it is at the end of the day when you are indeed tired. I try and blast music, put down my windows, especially if it is cold out and to slap myself a few times. Move around, scream, just do whatever to not keep staring at the same spot. I am not sure if there is any cure really. Sorry...

How far do you have to drive? What are your activites when you are not working? Are you "burning the candle at both ends"? How much traffic are you in when driving home? If traffic is light, you may want to consider chatting someone up on a hands-free cellphone. Difficult, though not impossible to fall asleep mid-conversation.

Try NOT taking so much caffeine. My husband also has paradoxical response to caffeine, it puts him to sleep like a hard drug. Try and develop good sleep hygiene when you are off work.

Another tip for increasing arousal while driving=> take off your shoes, it works for me. Or think about sex, that is another one that seems to have worked for me.

it could be that you arent sleep as well as you think at night....and a lot of peaple will crash on there way home from work...becuase it is the first chance they have had to kind of relax after a day of work....i would go and talk to your docter about it...and ask to see a sleep specialist....they could help you more and get some back ground info on your sleeping habits and activities during the night....that will help to figure out what is going on...
