Theres always the possiblity she is telling the truth. Have you caught her in a lie where you feel this way? Some times we tend to get ourselfves hyped up for all the wrong reasons. i would say maybe he was installing the detector, Did you check it to make sure, first? Did you need a detector. Check all you reason before you assume.

I work at a fire dept. and we don't install detectors b/c of liability issues, but since her brother is Chief, he has some pull. Was it a new detector? Can't answer this one. Do you trust your wife? Obviously not!

No I never did, my brother in law lived with us for a while when we first got married. He sucessfully put out our fire several times. He would bang on the bathroom door when we were in there together yelling for us to get out, if we went to bed early he would be outside the door calling his brother. No wonder I'm getting divorced.
