I'm glad to see that he's no longer blindly towing the party line.
He was originally outspoken, then became sheep-like for a year or two, and now seems back to his original self.
Also, it's very important to distinguish between going to Iraq in the first place, which had the goal of deposing Saddam, or staying there for the first few months after "Mission Accomplished" looking for WMDs, compared to staying there indefinitely as part of a nation-building exercise in the midst of a civil/sectarian war.
A lot of people supported the initial invasion that don't want to stay given that the tactical, logistic and strategic situation is completely different now. Different circumstances call for different decisions.

While I have nothing against him personally ...him changing positions is rather suspect...his showing at the G.OP convention in 2004 and his speech and his vote tell me all I need to know about this mans political ideology.I for one when I vote WILL NOT RETURN ANY CANDIDATE WHO VOTED YES TO THE WAR IN IRAQ..I consider all of those people sell outs to corporate America and the only way for them and all other politicians to get a clear message that this will not be tolerated is to not return them to office

Honesty has nothing to do with criticism, so I am unclear why you tied the two together in your question.
Regardless of how ANYONE feels about the war, what is so great about America is that we CAN openly criticize the government without fear.

Who gave you the job of deciding what is for nothing.
June 1944 15,000 soldiers died for 100 yards of beach, this was just 1 day in the end it gave us a beach head.
When you prove to me you are a military strategist I will consider your opinion on what these troops died for.
McCain seems to be honest, but he does not know what the generals are trying to accomplish

I think it's a ploy to perform the difficult stunt of "riding both sides of the issue" a.k.a. "hedging his bets"
