I remember this. This happened some time ago now. I can’t recall exactly where but I know as it was all over the papers and stuff. The balloon was actually too high in the sky – above the clouds and everything. When men fell off the balloon they had to fall for a long time to reach the earth. There were, as I mentioned earlier, thick charged clouds in the sky that morning. When those men enter the clouds during their freefall, some barnacle geese were also in that region, near the clouds, at the same time but for some different reasons. When the air turbulence of the freefall of men intersected with air turbulence caused by the flapping, or flipping-flapping, of wings as the geese flew past, a thunderstorm was triggered that soon grew bigger and bigger. Both people and the geese now were suspended midair due to air being sucked from underneath - geese still flapping their wing though motionless, and men lying long, not falling, and motionless as one would lie upon doctor’s table. Then the lightening struck, the spell of the winds was broken, all fell again, but another spell was cast - not really a spell call it a molecular fusion of skin-types for humans and feather-type for birdies. And by the time men got any closer to earth they had already grown wings.

Now, the answer to you question. They all hit the earth that is right but not they way you would have like to imagine. They landed upon a disused airstrip in the south country somewhere, all of them one after another smooth and elegant like swans, all safe and well. They are fine now apart from the fact the two of them almost got deep fried as people initially took them for some mega-sized chickens. Two of them struck lucky and signed up a contract with a famous Hollywood producer for a blockbuster movie – Angles of the Lost Balloon. I am glad that you mentioned!

Ultimately ... all 25 people falling from the balloon will 'hit' the ground ... whether they fall in the sea (they'll swim to the shore or they'll drown and will float to the shore or they will be rescued and brought to the shore), whether some fall on top of others, whether some land up on trees - they'll all 'hit' the ground.

They'll hit the ground even if the balloon was on the ground in the first place.

If they fall in the sea and some are eaten by sharks, then its a different story ;-)

25. Firstly because they are unlikely to fall from the same spot so so when they touch the ground they will land in different places. Secondly even if they fall from the same spot they will scatter whilst falling and thirdly even if some people fall on top of other people there will be some part of their body that will touch the ground.

None, the balloon is over the sea when they fall out.
or
24 as one gets tangled up on a rope and stays attached to the balloon.
or
23, two end up in trees
or any variation of the above, not enough details for a more accurate answer.

Can you really get 25 people in to one of those baskets in a hot air balloon?

It depends on where the ballon is over. What do you mean by hit? Would the people, assuming that they have both legs, land on two feet be considered as hitting the ground? Or is it just the ones who land any other way?
