Hitler was indeed a clever politician and a persuasive charactre. You could have put him in front of a room full of anti facists and they'd all come out yelling sieg heil and raising their arms. However most of his economical decisions were taken from Roosevelts anti crisis program. And he built an economy on government spending which is as good as building a house on quick sand. By the late 30s the books of the German state were coloured red. He only got through because he declared war on the rest of Europe. knowing that he became more and more mentally instable(many pshychiatrists believe he was schyzophrenic) . i'd definitly say was not so great as he pretended to be. In mein kampf he makes a very good point because he told the people what they wanted to hear. As he proved later putting those views into practice was not always as easy.

I heard parts of Mein Kampf quoted to me over a beer in Germany - particularly those referring to the jews as a state within a state. I cant see that he had much right especially as his theories on the master race were inaccurate. Although - the English are racially more German than the Germans being of AngloSaxon origin!!! One thing I will credit him for is the air cooling system in the Volkswagon Beetle - revolutionary!!

His mothers father was a Jew. That man was cruel to his mother. This was the start of his antisemitism.
It is a lie that Nazi Germany was an efficient way to run a govt and a war. When Great Britten declared war on Germany, they outproduced them in armaments until the end of the war.
The Nazis were always infighting that would make the Allied side looked like saints in comparison.
War material was waisted doing the final solution. Finally, one third of the goods made by slave labor in Nazi Germany was defective. While with no slaves in Great Britten and the USA, over 99% of their war arsenal were defect free.

Hey, The Wraith, seems to most people like Germany got screwed because they invaded Czechoslovakia, Poland, France, Russia etc, turned on their allies and massacred millions of their own citizens because they were Jews, Disabled or had the wrong political ideas!
Sure, the political and economic climate of the 1930's and the excessively harsh penalties imposed on Germany after WW1 created an atmosphere where Hitler's message of nationalism, self-determination and the common cause would be heard, and not everything he said or did was wrong, but pretty dangerous to say 'he got it right', don't you think?

The only thing I can say is Europe screwed the Germans and started WW1 with and french and British naval blockade of Germany's one port. Now to wit Hitler was allowed to rise to power because the treaty of Versailles throw all war debt on the Germans.
Germany got screwed for out producing the rest of the world and producing top notch engineers and products.

OK, World War 1 was not started by the French or the Brits. It was started when a Serbian (i think) assassinated the Arch Duke Ferdinand. Hitler was NOT a dictator, he was a democratically elected leader.

He was right in expressing the frustration at the treatment by Germany of the Allies after WW1. Unfortunately, his remedies, cynically planned from long before, were a conquest of Europe step by step, which would subjugate various nations and give Germany the assets of Russia. To get from a down and out to the Dictator, he seized on anti-Semitism as a method.
To his eternal disgrace, apart from his murderous policies, he blamed the Jews for starting the war, and his own people for failing to win it.
The truth was that he wanted a war, and he lost because he fired all his talented generals, if they disagreed with him

what the hell are you talking about? are you discussing the virtues of eliminating an entire race of people, or are you discussing the merits of national socialism?
History has shown that both ideals were wrong, and failed ideals as well. Of course it is still available....the Anti-Defamation League owns the royalties to the book.
National socialism is flawed because it deifies the patriarch of the state, removes the means of production from the individual, and embraces a constancy to the "counter-revolutionaries".

One of the reasons for Hitler's initial popularity was that he was very persuasive! A clever orator can do this, and inspire huge numbers of people - it's a bit scary!
