If it's a hermit crab, try reading this:

I doubt you want hundreds of little baby crabs around. If you only want to keep a few, and the babies appear to be independent (that may depend on the type of crab), you could release the others. Other than that, I would suggest putting them in a saltwater environment (use ocean water; mixing tap water and table salt will probably kill the crabs, because of chemicals in tap water such as chlorine) with a working filter and a little sand or some rocks to mimic their natural habitat. Again, use sand from the seashore if possible, and don't put too much in unless you have a special filter that works underneath the sand, because otherwise it can get full of nasty microorganisms you don't want. As for feeding them, the babies are probably so small they eat very tiny animals in the water, but for the mother you could try seaweed and maybe bits of other pet food (primarily meat). If you find the crab is not interested in one particular kind of food, you should probably remove any scraps of it from the tank in case it rots and poisons the crabs.

Remember, saltwater organisms are significantly harder to keep than freshwater ones. Don't be surprised if your crab dies no matter what you do for it.

You can put the crab in some salt water but more then likely none of the babies will live. No one has been able to mimic ocean water and the plankton and stuff in it for the baby crabs to live in.

I don't understand why you didn't throw it back but if you insist.

Crabs are carrion eaters (dead) so just about anything will do. Cans of cocktail shrimp, baby clams, sardines, brine shrimp and bloodworms found at pet stores. Live feeder fish are especially fun to watch get eaten.

If it dies, don't eat it. Crabs have a high immune tolerance so if something kills it, it was a BIG something.

I think there is some special shampoo or soap you can use to get rid of them. See a physician soon before the itching gets unbareable.

Oh wait, what kind of crabs are we talking about?

Please place them back in their habitat. There is a PH and other nutrients that the babies will need from their surroundings, the water and their enviroments. Please, help protect the ecosystem.

I know you are well intended with them , but the best way to care is allowing them to B on their natural habitat. Good Luck!!
