Something tells me that you might just be the only one who is complaining about the noise...if it were that serious and other people are complaining about it then I could see them taking action if it is a true nuisance. Maybe the police havent been out because they are busy keeping the streets clean of the real criminals out there like drug dealers, rapists, and people who just might steal your purse or do worse when you go out. Bikes are allowed a certain legal noise limit recorded in decibels(and so are cars)..no bike is totally quiet unfortunately and you must have heard some noisy cars somewhere along the line as well. If it is a neighbor with a bike that is noisy try politely asking them not to make excessive noise or at least not to do it after certain hours. Calling the police and stirring up a stink will only make it worse and I think you will have a very difficult and expensive time trying to sue a city or any other branch of government for that matter on the grounds that you are speaking of. As I said if it is TRUELY that bad, everyone else in your neighborhood would have or will eventually complain and then the police should do something...until then turn up the TV or for anyone who doesnt like the sound of vehicles in general..move to the country and complain about a neighbors dog barking all night. Unfortunately no matter where you will ever live, there will always be something not perfect.

Oh well, you put it in the motorcycle column?!!!! Yes, I ride but not all riders have the same opinions.
First of all it is not possible to sue a public municipality. The laws of the land prevent that.[check you'll see] I mean you can sue but the result will not be monetary for something like this. Why don't you approach the police department and first find out what the law says about noise pollution. Then see if you can help "police" the area. Please be careful. If the offenders know who is helping the police, then it may become a different game. Good luck.

As a Cop: Your best bet is to meet with your local Police Dept desk officer and file an official complaint about the motorcycle noise in your neighborhood. Be specific about the times and dates & request that the PD look into it. Also request that they contact you, as the complainant, with the outcome of their investigation.
As a Harley rider: Get it over it - Loud Pipes rock. I dont complain about your car blowing blue smoke, or your kids playing in the street, or your sterio being too loud, or your dog off leash etc... etc.... Those are the laws your local coppers should (& might) enforce when they come to your neighborhood.

Are there noise laws?
If no, then you are sh!t outta luck.
If there are, then the officer actually needs to witness the person with the loud pipes. If they decide to pull them over, it is thwir discretion whether or not to give them a ticket. Discretion is the key. A cop doesn't have to give someone a ticket for speeding... think about it.
Don't waste your time or money in TRYING to sue the police department.
If you are devistated by the noise, invest in some earplugs!

Motorcycle rider here. You need to find out if your area has a noise law, and then REQUEST that your local law enforcement check into the problem. You never want to go right to "sue", you want to work with the police department not piss them off. If it is a single bike on your street, try asking him if there is anyway he can leave the area a bit quieter (shifting gears to quiet the rumble).

You can sue all you want, but you wont do much but antigonize the police. Police can not be held liable for others breaking the law. Their inaction is not an offense for which you can obtain a judgement. You would achieve a much better response, if you collect signatures from all of your neighbors to a letter outlining the problem, and asking for the help of the police in solving it. Send the letter to your mayor, and to your local representative on the town or city council, as well as your state representative. elected officials are very sensitive to the requests of a group of voters, and they are the allies you need to spur the police into action.

First of all, does your city/county HAVE a noise law? Best to make sure of that first. If so, try to work with them on this issue - go to council meetings, send an e-mail with your concerns to their website, or mail a letter to them if no website is available. If there is a defined law & you have already taken these steps with no resolution, write a letter to your local paper & get a petition started. Canvass your nieghborhood for signers. I emphatize with you - I live on a main street in a town where I think every 5th vehicle is a Harley with straight pipes or a Dodge diesel truck with stacks - really fun when they leave the local bars at 2:30 am & roar home on weekends. I always say this is is the mating call of a drunk redneck: Brrrrrrr-RAAAAAAAAP-pop-pop!

You can't sue the Police Department, what you can do is file a complaint with the department. What I belive you are thinking of is a noise ordinace. You need to find out what your personal town's ordinance is but most towns is after dark no loud noises.
There is no laws against Mortorcycles. If its mini-cycles you're thinking of yes they have some laws against them in certain states. You really need to give more info when asking you're question.

Motorcyclists please don't answer? Perhaps this question is in the wrong category. Instead of being a whining little mamby pamby, why don't you walk up to a cop and bitchslap him the next time you hear a loud motorcycle? That way you will get immediate attention and not tie up the court system with your nonsense.

I didn't know there was a motorcycle law. What does this law say? It's legal to ride motorcycles. So if they bug you - do what I do and sleep with a fan on or do something to drown out the noise. I don't think suing is going to get you anywhere.
