Q. Are you referring to the expansion of energy/matter, within the universe.....or the expansion of the geometry of the universe itself ?

Are you ready for curved-space theory ?

It's just the space getting bigger, there isn't anything for it to expand into.
Whether it is ever expanding or not , we don't know. If it goes on expanding for ever, it will eventually get relatively empty and boring.
However it may get to a certain stage, and then start contracting. As it contracts, it won't leave any space behind, it's space itself that will contract. This will go on until all the space, mass, energy of the universe are concentrated in one point. Then there will be a big bang and it will all start expanding again, and there will be a new universe.
There may be only one, or there may be many of these universes in existence.

The problem with us humans is that we always think there is a reason for something but have never stopped and just accepted things as they are. Ask yourself the ultimate question 'What is space'. We are bound by our own theorems that we believe and try to prove/disprove (against who and what? ourselves). This makes us believe that we are intelligent. Hell, we can't even master our own gravity so we'll never know will we. In answer to your question, space is just there, it exists and thats that. Any thoughts of where does it end etc are just too easy to use as an excuse because our minds can't comprehend the fact that something 'just is'. We are tiny in the universe and have much to learn, maybe one day we'll know. As a race we should take baby steps toward the stars and then explore and learn. I hope i'm wrong but consider it for just 1 second of your life.

And.......

For those big bang/big crunch theorists... ask yourself this question.

If the universe will expand to a point where it reverses into the big crunch (reverse). Should there not be some constant. For example, a super huge massive force in the centre of the universe. Would that force not also be so huge (relative to universe size) that it is clearly visible?

Consider this, if the Universe is all there is by definition.~All matter and energy, including the earth, the galaxies, and the contents of intergalactic space, regarded as a whole.~ then their can be anything else out side of it because technically the universe is all there is. Now if u still want some what of an answer just think of it as a timeless void, without color, space mass or energy. it is th eepitemy of nothing.

its not expanding into anything because theres nothing to expand into, its creating itself as it goes. I think, of course how would any of us know the farthest a human being has ever gotten is the moon. And our probes have barely left the solar system.

Well take in for example an obese person, when they expand they just get larger, that is how the universe is expanding.

The more science investigates things at the quantum level, the more the entire universe is beginning to look like a thought, rather than solid matter. Doesn't that open up a new can of worms? Isn't it curious that the ancient Vedic seers and Rishis of India already knew this thousands of years ago?

definite...this explains the extreme divorce cost at the moment. do not snort...there's a cosmic connection. you spot...it really is authentic..the universe is increasing and we human beings in the international are growing to be more desirable aside on a regularly happening foundation....there's a good parallel from the macro to the micro...we are no diverse.

It is getting thinner the more it stretches, there is one point in deep space south that a piece of our universe has ripped off and is spinning away from the rest of us and it's accelerating away!
yip! anti-gravity strikes again.
lol
