idk... but whoever it was needs to be reeducated... you just don't mess with a classic AMERICAN cartoon... it's not a british cartoon... and it's one of the few cartoon in the history of cartoons that can be enjoyed around the world with very little editing... (yeah... i've seen T&J in italy, germany, and spain... and on transeuropean and transatlantic flights...) it's a classic and nothing about it shold be messed with... EVER!!!

When I was a kid I was paying more attention to Tom getting his A** kicked. The smoking just looked funny to me, it did'nt make me wanna go light up. Editing Tom and Jerry will take away from it's award winning animation. Half of the kids that watch it will still probably end up smoking anyway. And not cuz they saw it on t.v..hmmm well maybe some of them.

I don't know, but it sure does piss me off! When I wached Tom and Jerry as a kid, I NEVER thought "Oh, Tom is smoking, it must be cool, I wanna try!" It's a friggin' cartoon! Kids try to imitate the violence and fighting. Nobody I know ever started smoking because a cartoon character did. It's all completely absurd!

my friends son started acting out cartoons that were a little violent at school with some of the kids and my friend was grilled about what sort of cartoons/films are you letting your child watch! in the end she was given a list off social services of pre-school/curriculum cartoons that he can watch/which are allowed and tom and jerry was one of the cartoons listed! what a joke! so i guess violence is allowed! he's 8 so no way is he gonna light up, if he smokes it'll be cuz of his mum smoking. t & j just made it look silly.

It's ridiculous. They think that it will teach people that smoking is OK. I watched Tom & Jerry all throughout my childhood and I am not a smoker, I can't stand cigarette smoke. They are extremely bored and they choose to ignore the *real* problems in this world.

That's some bulls*t. I watched T&J as a child and my nephew who is 4 now watches it. These people who come up with some of this stuff have waaay toooo muuuch time on their hands. While they're out here editing T&J, they need to tackle some real problems like gangs, drugs, teen pregnancy, and the increasing rate of high school drop outs. The kids they need to be focusing on are the ones that are closer to being adults and editing out smoking doesn't mean a d*mn thing to them. I have heard it all now!

Good point. If kids aren't chasing each other with clubs or what ever Tom and Jerry go after each other with, then they won't start smoking because they're doing it.

I agree...banning them from smoking is not going to prevent kids from trying it out...my sister is 6 and she watches T & J all the time, (which anymore is like, what? once a day if they even show it that much anymore) yet she hates it when people smoke. I watched it when I was younger, and I still do, and I think smoking is wrong, but Popeye just wont be Popeye if they ban his pipe, which they are thinking about doing...T & J will lose some of its touch if they edit it...I would be, honestly, more worried about todays cartoons (some of which are just so freaking retared) and what they portray...just IMHO of course...nice to see I'm not the only one who finds this ban dumb...

I been watching tom and jerry when i was 5 years old and NO it shouldnt be edited
If you dont like tom and jerry dont watch it
