The only situation that I could think of that would make me to not be who I am today, would be if I was born to different parents or raised in a different family..
But at the same time, I remember asking my mother (when I was 5) the question "If I hadn't been born to you, would I have been born to someone else?" And she laughed and said, "Of course not!"
The rest of the day, I was entranced with my question and her response, and I was firmly convinced that I had existed long before she gave birth to me. Needless to say, I believed that I would have been born to someone else, if not my mother.
So then, I've got to wonder about the fact that, as a five year old, I already had a very strong sense of self and the continuation of it from another time and into the future (I probably hadn't heard the word "soul" yet).. so I knew that I would have carried a sense of self from a previous time into my present family.
As an adult, I can see that my previous "sense of self" has been (of course) amended to my present circumstances, but in direct answer to your question.. I would be myself no matter what, because I always have been and always will be..(?).
Hope this helps?

Answer a)
If you mean why would I "want" to be my current self then, well, my answer is that there is no reason in particular.
Infact, I would not want to be myself. Not that I do not like myself but there are so many other better qualities I could have ... I would not want to be restricted by the nature of my current self.
Answer b)
Taking your question literally, if I weren't who I am I would be myself because in that case my "self" would be the person I am then.
So, logically, I would have to be myself. Who else could I be?

If I were not what I were then I would be anything but myself this is true, and I accept this. Acceptance is all that make us realise what we have in life through life, if so, then first of all I must accept myself as I am - myself, and you as you are - yourself. I always do this, there is respect in that.

The other side of light offers many answers. Unfortunately this time there is no answer. Already I am you and you are me and the weekend is coming. Remember those old Beatles songs? No? OK, try this one...if you were me and I were you where would you be?

if I can be myself then it is death, the quest for humans is not to question but to identify, and if Identify who I am then my quest is over, sorry love but I can't answer an irrelevant question. BUt if this is used to identify who I am then all I need to know is that I am a man, simple, with no understanding of life itself.

The term 'yourself' is relative to whom you may be. Therefore, if I were not myself but were someone else, I would still be 'myself' except with a different predicate.

Because I'm 100% British and would therefore, be so far up the ladder that I wouldn't have to talk to cretins like yourself.

I am identical with whoever I am. So if I were somebody else I would still be myself.

"if I weren't who I am, what would make me want to be me?"
Well... No idea... I'd rather be Brad Pitt instead, but I'd not rather be a woman lol.
