I don't understand why purposing to a girl would ever hurt her feelings.

Do you mean propose marriage? How would that hurt her feelings? Just a thought, but maybe you need to move past the "like" stage into "love" before you propose at all.

I get the feeling that you are not American and you worded your question wrong by accident. Trust me, it will not hurt a girl's feelings if you propose to her. Just make it special. Take her out for a walk and give her a flower with a ring tied to the stem. Give her a series of small presents, cute little things, like maybe a tiny teddy bear or a chocolate, and make sure the last present is the engagement ring. Think of what she likes and what's likely to appeal to her and make it a romantic night. Good Luck.

why proposing hurt a girls feelings? Do you know what proposing is? Its when a guy asks a girl (or vice versa) to marry him (or her).
it usually does not involve the hurting of feelings

Just make it memorable.
Propose to her at a place that she likes. Even if it is a park or a restaurant, maybe it may even be a theater.

I think you love her very much that is the reason you are so concerned about her feelings, but don't worry there is nothing which is going to hurt her, but don't ever try to force your feelings on her, firstly try to understand her feelings for you, and then propose, in case if she doesn't accepts it make it clear to her that both of you would remain very good friends as you used to be.
