Describe a scenario where you feel/felt your boss at work was completely irrational or handled a situation inappropriately. How did this affect your work performance/ willingness to be there?

*My boss, often, sweeps problems or issues under the rug, rather than handles it then and there...causing problems to continue as always, which results in more frequent walk-outs or angry employees.. very unprofessional.

A few years ago I was working for a computer wholeseller company. Now I'm a tech and at the time my boss had laid off the delivery driver. I was told that I would need to help with the deliveries, but mainly the local ones. After a few days, I was making deliveries to a different state.

I was told that I would be getting OT for the times, considering that I was being made to make deliveries from NY to NJ. There were a few times when I had to leave the office around 2pm to make a delivery to NJ and I didn't get back till 6 or 7 sometimes 8 or 9 depending on where in NJ I had to be at.

Pay day (which is friday)came and I wasn't paid the OT that my boss had promised, I then confronted him and I was told that the deliveries I had done should have only taken 1 hour or less round trip. Now this is BS since the office is in Long Island and it takes about 35-45 min to get to NJ. I then told him to please make the deliveries for NJ earlier preferably before 12pm

The next day (Sat) My boss had called me early in the morning about 7am, knowing that I'm still asleep, decides to leave me a Voice mail and tells me that my services are no longer available since he found someone else to do the deliveries to NJ and not to return to the office, he would have someone drop off my personal items.

I was pissed that he did that. He didn't have the decency to tell me face to face or even over the phone. He decided to leave it on my voicemail. I was very surprised considering when at work, he's very loud and rude to the workers and customers, but when he left me the voice mail he was very soft spoken.

Right now I'm very happy at my current job. No more stress from that old boss, better pay, better hours, better benefits. My current boss comes to us and trys to solve company problems, unlike my old boss where he would say "I don't care, just take care of it. JUST DO IT! that's what you are getting paid for!" and we are talking just a bit more than minimum wage. Last I heard he was being audited by the IRS, I honestly think he crossed too many people and someone is screwing with him.

my boss was a 450lbs priss. He sat on his throne and had underlings use threatening tactics - e.g. do this or lose your job. Unfortunately he was pres of the division and driving it into the ground. Since he had no business sense nor connection to reality when it came to the industry in which we were working the busines rapidly deteriorated. One day I with a colleague landed the biggest account in the company history - It went well for three months and then we needed to allocate some funds - offered through the client - to market the client needs. My boss directed the VP marketing not to spend the money but count it as profit to the bottom line. When I called him privately on this unethical decision he denied it. When I called him publicly on the issue he circumvented it. The next week he called me into his office to tell me I was not doing a good job and put me on probation. Conversely, the departments I managemed were operating above revenue and budget targets. Subsequently he began interviewing people from within the company for my position. I ended up quitting and watched from afar as the company continued its downward spiral. Since my ex-boss has been fired. This example is of how he treated me after I had been witht he company for more than 10 years.... Unfortunately it is a culture he cultivated and which as negatively affected many. This guy -- a horrible boss and false person -- sets a negative example for all not to follow.

Earlier this year, I was out for a month due to pneumonia and then a couple of months ago I was rear-ended on the highway and had to call in for a couple of days. In both cases, I turned in doctor's notes and ER discharge papers and I was still written up for excessive absenteeism with a warning that the next time I was absent, I would be suspended without pay for three days, the time after that I would be suspended for five days and the time after that I would be fired. The next day, I turned in my two weeks notice and haven't had any regrets about it.

Worst boss is easy. I unknowingly was working for a guy who had a shady side. I didn't like my pay (too little for everything I was doing there), but it was an ok job writing up descriptions of collectables, processing payments, etc. I worked there about six months, then one day he went to lunch and never came back. Turned out he had ripped tons of people off, emptied his and his wife's bank accounts (including her store's money) and ran. The FBI finally caught him this year.
