I use throw rugs in high traffic areas to save the carpet but I am forever having to reposition them. Each step moves them just slightly and at the end of the day, they're out of position.

Its really hard to keep rugs from sliding on the carpet. You could carpet tape to hold it down. You could get a carpet pad, a pad that holds rugs down on hardwood floors (I'm not sure what the name of them is) or if you have a plywood under lament, you could always use tacks or brad nails from a nail gun and tack down the edges. I don't know if that would work, but that is probably what I would do if I were you. Things like that really tick me off because there is nothing more you can do than these suggestions.
