Those colleges that use a formula would give you the points for the "higher" score. However, I'd imagine that most people taking both exams would not have a statistically significant discrepancy in scores. Personally, I'd spend the time working on application essays instead. Exams scores are just a number. It's the essay that makes you seem like a real person to the committee.

It really depends upon the college. If they prefer one test over another, you might be better off just taking the same test twice. The only real reason to take both of these tests is if you are interested in several schools, some of which prefer the SAT and others prefer the ACT.

Years ago, southern schools typically were interested in the ACT, while northern and western schools were interested in the SAT.

Getting accepted into college is likely going to rely on more than just your test scores, anyway. Your high-school grades and courses, your extracurricular activities and volunteer work will help. Remember, while colleges want the best and brightest, they also want students who will finish and go on to make a mark on the world. (A cynic might say so they can contribute to the alumni fund.)

no take both and see which one is better....you can use which ever one you want it wont effect you, and you are going to score better on one then the other..cause there's more math on the act and the sat is more of english and words and stuff.
