Hey all, I am male, 18 years old and I study acting here in Los Angeles since I was 15. It's my dream to become an actor (screen). I am quite good looking, my height is 5'4" 1/2 (without any shoes), would you say I am short? Do I still have the potentiality to grow taller after 18, even few more inches? Do you think my height will influence the opportunities of being able to get acting jobs here in Hollywood? Serious roles, not a Gary Coleman or a Danny DaVito (with no offense to them...lol)

I've studied many years to come to this point and now at the thought that height could influence my future depresses me greatly. What do you people think? Thank you for taking time to read!

Ok, first off, height makes little difference in the wide span of things. Some of the greatest actors were short. THOUGH, to be sure, the taller actors usually play leading roles. Cncentrate on your acting ability and you overcome physical challenges.

An example of the opposite, was Fred Astaire. Astaire had very long long hands, and when he held them up next to his face, it made him appear rather odd. He practised dancing with his hands curled so that the length would be hidden. Watch his old movies and you can see this.

Now, height is not something you can hide, or fake, but if you can act, you will get parts. Really good actors end up in the good character parts becuase of thier reletively average height, rather than being too tall. Take a look at these:
Mickey Rooney was only 5' 3"
Dustin Hoffman is only 5' 6"
Tom Cruise is 5' 7"
Robin Williams is 5' 8"
Robert Dinero is 5' 9'
all under 6', yet considered to be average height, Yet very well known actors getting parts of all kinds. And, keep in mind that you MAY grow more as you get older. My younger brother was much shorter than my older brother and I for many years. Then suddenly at 18, he shot up and is now taller than either of us.

Now, that said, HAZEL, get your *&^% facts straight! SHEESH!
John Wayne was a towering 6' 4". In many scenes very tall 'extras" had to be brought in to fill the background so that he looked more normal. NO doorways were specially built, nor actresses standing in holes. You obviously were thinking of some other actor.

(and since someone esle mentioned it, wrongly again.
Robert Redford: 5' 10")

Tom Cruise is only about 5'4. John Wayne was also short. They built movie sets with smaller doorways, and had leading ladies stand in holes to make him look taller. If you are a good enough actor, height won't matter much -- until you go out in public with a taller woman...

No -- you won't grow any more after age 18.

No it is not suitable. Hollywood could make you look taller, Tom cruise is barely like 5"7 or 5"8, so while you're making it huge, then whenever you goto huge activities only determine you pop on your top increasing boots or shoes. once you're a damn stable actor and dont look 0.5 undesirable then there is not any clarification why you may't be a huge time celebrity in hollywood. except your a sort for magazines or clothing companies, top won't be counted.

Of course you can still grow after 18. I had a friend who was your height at 19 and by 21 he was 6-foot-2.

If you're a good actor, your height doesn't matter. Dustin Hoffman is short, as is Michael J. Fox. And I was shocked when I met Robert Redford and discovered he was short as well.

Good luck!
