LOL half the movies mentioned above are about FICTIONAL characters, and to the dolt who says "Star Wars" to every question? Dont worry, boy, youre testicles will drop eventually.
"Casino" - Based on the life of Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal, a gambling handicapper who, with the Mob's backing, ran one of the most notorious and successful casinos in Las Vegas.
"The Doors" - Oliver Stone's movie about Jim Morrison and The Doors.
"JFK" - Another Stone film, not about Kennedy so much as it is the story of the DA in New Orleans who was the only prosecutor to bring a trial in the murder of John F. Kennedy, Jim Garrison.
"Malcolm X" - Spike Lee's brilliant film about Malcolm X, stars Denzel Washington.
"Hoffa" - Danny DeVito did a pretty good job chronicling the life of Teamster President Jimmy Hoffa, who disappeared without a trace. Almost certainly a mob hit, no body has ever been recovered.recovered.

Im not for sure if I have a fave. Can't decide on just one.
However, I love "Eight Below", "Glory Road", "Remember the Titans", "Friday Night Lights", and theres prob. a few others. I enjoy watching movies based on true stories. Makes the movie interesting b/c it really happened.

Spike Lee's SUMMER OF SAM.
Not exactly based on a true "story" per se, but a realistic extrapolation of how real life events (which happened in 1977 NYC) affected a small group of people in the italian community of the era.
Check it out; amazing acting from all involved!
Cheers

My favorite is Das Boot...based on the book by Lothar Gunther-Buchheim...it tells the story of a u-boat voyage in WWII and tells it true to life.
