I have a Creative Zen Touch and really don't like it. It is super touchy and often jumps to the end of tracks if I even brush against it. It does have good sound and great battery life, however.
I'm not familiar with the iPod, so I can't help you there.

Creative Zen V. for many reason
Ipod nano gets scratced very easily
Ipod nano has NON REPLACEBLE batteries, when the batteries die out, you must send it back to apple
The Other option would be a Sandisk Sansa (the new version) it has Video Capabilities, FM radio, Audio recorder, Microphone recorder, and FM recorder. of course, besides MP3,
This Sandisk is on my christmas list ;)

my pal has an previous zen and the sound in this is like new so the greater moderen zen might desire to be far greater helpful, each so often on ipods the sound comes out all muffled. the battery interior the zen lasts way longer besides so i might flow with the imaginitive ZEN!!! (i think of this is greater value-effective too)

I would go with the Zen just because I had a Nano and I hated it. Not so much the Nano, as I absolutely hate apple itunes. It always messed up my computer, and its just annoying to use.
