The extinct Quagga was a type of Zebra - very closely related to the mountain Zebra - that had virtuall no stripes. From the preserved skins and taxidermy examples left it has been determined that the hair on zebras is predominantly white and the stripes are dark brown - not black.

White with black stripes.

But white and black striped? Has there ever been a spotted zebra? or an albino zebra.... the idea behind the zebras patterning is that from a distance it looks like a complex pattern and predators can't identify individual animals

Most Africans think zebras are black with white stripes. If you shave a zebra, you will see that their skin color is mostly black. What see see are rows of white and black hair. Kinda like which came first, the chicken or the egg.
