Yeah, they can 'cuz ever since the sun started going away for a few hours a day, they HAD to or risk being stuck in one place for hours at a time.

Turn your lights out and have a flashlight in your hand. Stand by the fish tank, turn your light on them and you'll see they do swim in the dark.
