Because the silly idiot fuzzy liberals think it is wrong for kids to be involved in competitive sport.
Because football is full of foreign players leaving no room for training up UK talent.
Because Tennis is still the reserve of the elitists leaving little room for the general public.
Because school playing fields have all but been wiped out.
Because there is very little money forthcoming for any sport. (The money from the lottery fund goes mainly to the top athletes and very little to anything constructive).
Very few athletics tracks.
Sports centres and sports clubs are frequently pricing people out of the market.
I could go on but the list would get too long.

We're the Second best test Nation in the World at Cricket and last time we played the number one side we beat them.
As for Football, only 80 something players in a premiership of 500 are eligible for the national side, the rest are foreign. IMO the "2 overseas only" rule in Cricket is a factor in England being better at it.

We won the rugby world cup, we won the ashes last year and just beat Pakistan, Andy Murray just beat Federer, Joe Calzaghe is World Super Middle Weight Champ, our Premiership is the most watched football league in the world and my uncle, Philip Carter, won the Tiddly Winks World Series last month.
I think we can be fairly proud of that.

Unfortunately we dont have a winning mentality nor a structure of sports development from school.
In the UK it is wrong to compete and want to beat people ...
