He won't die, it is very difficult for an author to kill off the main character in a book like this where so many people are putting their personal input into the creation of the book. If it were a book that wasn't as popular as this there may be a possibility to kill him off but not in Harry Potter.

People seem to keep forgetting that the prophecy stated that the Dark Lord will mark his enemy as equal- he did not choose Neville, he chose Harry. He gave Harry the mark when he attacked him to try and kill him. He only heard enough of the prophecy to know that a baby was born that could be his undoing. Neville is not that boy. While I will admit he has been growing as a wizard, it is very highly unlikely that he will be the one to kill Voldemort, if that is what happens.

It's hard to say whether Harry would die. Rowling does not seem to be the type to give you the normal happy ending. She surprised by killing Dumbledore, whether it was intentional or not. If Harry was killed, it would leave the wizarding community in a devastating state and it would be all to intruiging to hear what happens in the days after Harry is killed. If she has Harry kill Voldemort, then we have the happiest ending of all and we breathe a sigh of relief that all turns out as it should be.

Personally, I'm a sucker for happy endings.

I have a theory about all this. Don't forget, the prophecy didn't mention Harry by name. Neville Longbottom was also born on July 31, but everybody assumed that since Harry'd already been attacked by Voldemort, and Neville didn't show much talent, that Harry would destroy Voldemort. But in recent books, Neville has been getting stronger, and he has just as much reason to hate Voldemort as Harry, if not more (he has to see what Voldemort did to his parents every time he goes to see them--Harry was just a baby).

I think that Neville will be the one who destroys Voldemort, and he will be destroyed then. Harry will survive.

I also think Dumbledore isn't really dead. Remember how he went to visit the Weasleys in the beginning to warn them that Voldemort's followers had figured out a way to duplicate others, and told them to figure out a password to identify each other? He never mentioned it again, even to Harry. And remember his hand? Don't forget that Wormtail's hand was silver--it may have been Wormtail disguised as Dumbledore all along, and the problem with his hand was that the spell didn't work as well on his silver hand.

I don't want it to happen but with all of the rumor's and J.K. Rowling's own comments I'm starting to speculate that Harry is definitely going to be dying in the last book. Don't know for sure though, will just have to wait and see when the book comes out!

The author had said she didn't want anyone else to be able to use her creation.. so it's very likely he will die. As silly as this sounds, I think I'll cry when that happens.. and miss the little bugger. I'd hate to see any of them die, with the exception of that Draco Malfoy .. or maybe his father..
In any case.. the death of Harry Potter may be like losing a family member..

It's possible - but now that J.K. Rowling has put the thought in your head, you're definitely going to read the book to find out, right?

I think all these rumors about Harry's death are mostly to get publicity on Book 7 started, even though it won't be in bookstores for another year.

Definitely. JK doesnt want anyone making harry potter sequels. So she's finishing them both off, voldy and harry. Hurts, but then the truth always hurts

For the story to be good yes he has to die. I'm hoping for an epic battle with Harry and Voldemort. I think if it ends any other way the story will be lacking.

I think that he will. My reasoning is this: Voldemort made the Horcruxes right? When you kill someone you lose a part of your soul. Because when Voldemort tried to kill Harry he transferred some of himself to Harry I think Harry is a Horcrux and in order for him to vanquish Voldemort he has to die as well.
