In the 9th or 10th grade, there were these books (in the school library) about WASHINGTON STATE...title's WASHINGTON, and WASHINGTON II. National Geographic type books. full color, like 8x10 pic's.
And A book about MOUNT ST. HELENS... with pic's from before and after the May 18, 1980 Eruption.
Same type.
Each book then cost like $22.00, you know, like a million to me then...So I took them.
All three of them, eventually.
I almost got caught on the Mount Saint Helens one.
Truth is, I really only borrowed them, cause after like 6 years or so, maybe 7...I had such a guilty conscience that I had to take them back, along with a " Euell Gibbons", Edible Wild Plant book I had also taken from there.
I just walked into the library, i musta' been like 25 or so.
And I said to the library attendant. Here, these books are slightly overdo. Set them on the desk in front of the person, and walked out.
I get a real guilty conscience anytime I do the slightest thing wrong, so I tend not to steal or lie.
I just am not good at either one.
Thats not a bad thing I guess.
I was like 5 or 6 yrs old, my mom had just gotten a haircut from her friend Marie; at her home.
She left 5 bucks on the counter.
Well I really didn't know at first- It just never crossed my mind at that age that she had to pay her friend for a haircut...
As we were leaving I grabbed the money and put it in my pocket.
this was like 1976...no cel phones yet....
So on our way home I asked if we could go to McDonalds.
Mom was like, "No, I don' have any money".
We lived on a gravel road.
I said, as we got within a few blocks of the house..."I want to run home the rest of the way".
I still really didn't realize I was committing a CRIME soto speak...
I just thought STILL that she like forgot the money or something.
My mom got home, in like 2 minutes the phone rang, I was still outside on my way I suppose...
So...I took the five bucks and ground it in the dusty / dirty gravel road.
That is when I finally felt that I was doing something I shouldn't be doing.
To top it off, I ran the rest of the way home, and was all HAPPY and EXCITED...
Boy was I in for it!!!
Mom allready talked to her friend, and had gotten off the phone.
I made up an elaborate story. I said ,"Mom, we can go to McDonalds now, I found 5 dollars...
The rest is History.
Later after confessing, I locked myself in the 2nd floor bathroom.
I though of jumping out the window.
You know that whole, well wouldn't they miss me if I was gone....
AH life.
That and a lie I told and got caught in at the age of 9 really did it for me.
I am 34 now and like I said, I am a terrible lie'r So I tell the truth, and I feel guilty and it bugs me even if I take a pen from work.
Is that dumb?
The one thing I would do that would cause me to lie, denying my BAD HABIT....when asked about it...And I could never even pull that off either, so I just had to give it up. I guess, for now. (420)...

The one and only time I tried to shoplift I got caught :-(

This was when I was 18 years old, back before video games were kept behind glass, and there was a game at Target that I wanted so badly I decided to chance it. My dumb @ss walked around half the store with it clutched in my hand before I thought I found the perfect place to slip it in my purse;on the back side of an isle in the bed and bath department. Then, like a dingleberry, I walked around the store for about 30 more minutes. I noticed that one guy in particular seemed to show up in what ever department I was in, and was taking a keen intrest in me. I should have taken it as a hint, but I didn't. So, there I go for the front door without purchasing anything. I got through the first set of doors before they decended on me. Thus ended my life of crime. I recieved 6 months probation and a $122 dollar fine.

That should be the end of the story, but it's not. FOUR YEARS LATER I was pulled over for following too close to another vehicle, and when the DPS officer ran my license, he came back and slapped handcuffs on me. WTF? Come to find out, I had been TWO DOLLARS SHORT on my last installment of my fine (keep in mind that when I made my last payment I asked the lady at the counter if I was free and clear she said yes) and the warrant for my arrest had not been issued until THREE DAYS before I got pulled over, so I didn't even know it yet. So here I am, eight months pregnant, and I got taken in for a $37 warrant (the "fee" for a warrant was $35 at the time, plus the $2 that i was short on the payment). They booked me then let me go. To add insult to injury, three days after that I recieved the notice about the warrant in the mail. With pleasure, I burned it.

So my forray into the life of crime bit me in the @ss twice.

I stole money from my dad's sock drawer LOL but never got caught....my daughter had a huge stealing problem when she was five years old...she lied to her teacher and told her that she didnt have a lunch so she had to buy it and the bill went up almost 30 bucks that's a lot of lunches at 75 cents a piece. Then she stole from a babysitter money etc....the final straw is when she stole money from her friends purse at her friends birthday party...my daughter was confronted at school the next day and was bullied until she confessed...it was the best thing for her cuz she never stole again.

Yes, I've to admit that I did , not only once, twice but more than twenty times when I was seven years old. I've been caught red-handed and sent back to my mother's house, been punished and torture until I begged for forgiveness and a promise.
What did I steal ? Fruits ,is seemed like nothing big but that was an excellent lesson for me,never did it again and I told my kids and they are all put this in their mind..

The real question is whether there is anyone who has NEVER stolen anything.

I think that we have all stolen something at least once in our lives. My cousin denied that she ever stole anything but when a contractor comes over, she will secretly "borrow" one of his tools while he is working and then she will hide it under the sofa in anticiaption that he will not know that it is missing and then she keeps it.
