No difference. I know more lives that have been physically, mentally, and emotionally destroyed by the legal and socially acceptable abuse of alcoholic beverages than even the heaviest of pot smokers. How often do you hear on the news "He was high on pot, beat the crap out of his wife, then got in his car crossed the expressway median, and killed a mother of 3 and her unborn child?" Unfortunately I'm sure you hear similar stories involving DUIs in major cities too often except take off the "high on pot" part in the beginning and replace the ending with "...his blood alcohol content was 3 times the legal limit."

A recent consumer survey result shocked the askers when it came back that most people thought that if alchohol, tobacco and coffee were new they should be instantly seen as dangerous illegal drugs and banned!

It is classed as a downer in addiction workers circles!

Yes, from the standpoint of legality and social acceptance, as you mentioned, and from a tax point of view as a previous responder mentioned. Beyond that, I think its less "strong" than many illegal illicit drugs. However, the potential for destruction and devastation from its abuse is the same. But I don't think it is as likely to become addictive as, say crack or heroin, or something like that.

i'd say these 2 things are pretty much the only difference. i guess also you can have a couple of glasses and not see a huge effect whereas with most other drugs there's an immediate effect - no "in between" stage. maybe less so with cannibis if you're used to it.

if you drink to excess, then no its really not any different to any other drug - its addictive, expensive, alters your behaviour and damages your health

Every drug except alcohol is either an "upper" or a "downer", a stimulant or a depressant.

Alcohol is unusual in that it is a depressant and reduces mental functions and reaction time, but has the effects of a stimulant in that it makes people feel more capable.

look Mr Spike,as regards the addiction, yes. But one difference is that you may start drinking for totally different reasons than starting drugs, and you can start drinking a lot easier..i mean just being at home..the health problems it causes are different as well..but the result is one if you dont get rid of this habbit soon enough!with the right help of course..
take care!

ask your liver! my brother in law died alone in his apartment when his liver and stomach ruptured. He didn't think a few beers for the last 20 years would hurt him. As for drugs my nepwhew can't carry on a normal conversation from the bit of pot hes smoked for the last 20 years. They are both the same. Drink Pepi! (in moderation) that can kill you to! ah the hell with it drink water!

Alcohol is not a drug. One is not intoxicated with alcohol but one may be under the influence of alcohol. Wine contains some degrees of alcohol, so does beer. Use it in moderation with meals. Wine is said to be the blood of Jesus Christ.
