That is normal. The more programs you have on your hard drive that start with boot up, the longer it takes to fully boot.
Assuming you have Windows XP Pro, You can shave a few seconds off of your boot up time by doing the following:
1. Right click on My Computer
2. Left click on Properties
3 Left click on the Advanced tab
4. Click on the Settings button for Startup and Recovery
There you can make adjustments to Time to display list of operating systems. You can change the time down to zero if you only have one operating system on your computer.
You can change the time to display recovery options when needed to 15 seconds or less depending on your liking.
My computer starts slowly even though my desktop is showing because Norton antivirus scans the computer drives upon startup, making it more secure from viruses but slow on the get go. It's a trade off. You increase security and lose quick boot time. Or have a faster boot time and lose security.
If you have already checked for spyware and adware and cleaned those out, I think everything is ok. You might also consider other products such as spyware blaster which prevents trouble as well as spyware doctor. Any security software can slow your computer.
I hope this helps.

well many saying about software remove or disable but many dint notice about the extra harddisk in your pc. Remove all non using harddisk and your computer boot time will be very quick. I have a fast computer and with empty harddisk i have 4 harddisk on EIDE and when i install windows, it take forever to load up to the start even just install windows as the computer take its time to scan the harddisk.
I removed the 3 extra harddisk and now the windows running around 5sec before it boot into windows where before it took around 1 min. Hope that helps...

if u are clean of ad/spy wares and viruses, then u might be running too much programs at startup. usually firewalls and anti-virus take up some time.
verify the programs that are run at startup.
take run,type msconfig.
if u r using xp, the msconfig may not work. in that case, download the "Startup Control Panel by mike lin. it will be very useful

Do you have a Network card installed? That alone can add 40-45 seconds to the loading time.

hi, perhaps there are virus in your computer, virus can slow your computer. perhaps you can try Norton to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.
i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
download firefox for free:

Try to disable some of the programs that start when "Windows" starts. You can do this by starting the "MSCONFIG" utility (click "Start", click "Run", type "MSCONFIG" and press "Enter"), clicking the "Startup" tab and, in the box there, disable all the programs that don't need to start when your computer starts.
