Anyone know how long PVC tends to last in the great outdoors? I am talking about the white stuff, schedule 40? And I am talking about the wilds of New Mexico, lots of sun, lots of rain lately, lots of wind. How long before it becomes brittle?

Schedule 40 will quickly deteriorate when exposed to sunlight. You would need to cover it with a paint.Especially if you live in a state with a lot of continuous sunshine. It will probably brittle within a year. You can spray it and let it soak with a good protectant like 'Amour all'

I have some pvc outside in Wisconsin - heat, cold, freeze, thaw - and it's still going strong after 15 years. It did discolor to a yellowish color, but it still works fine.

Depends on whether you leave it in the weather, or underground where it belongs. Underground, it will last a lifetime. Upstairs, a few years, maybe.

'Nuff said?
