Depo is the absolute worst drug I have ever had used.
It gave me servere Migraines! I had the thickest hair you could have before and now it is gotten so thin. The injection spot still hurts even after 10 years! I would never suggest this birth control to anyone! It causes way to many problems.
Also, the weight gain was horriable! It makes you hungrey all the time! Stay away from this drug. I was 112 pounds when I started it. The last shot I was 192 pounds. I am now back down to a healthy weight, thank god!
I certainly hope you feel better soon. I had migraines for 4 or more years. The doctors gave me every pain medicine to stop them and nothing worked until the depo was completely out of my system. I would have your tubes tied if you don't want any more children.

I have been on the Depo for years and have not suffered any symptoms except never having a period, ever, which I think is great. I have tried other methods of contraception as well but have found the Depo the best.
You should go to the Dr if you think it's causing you problems and they will change you on to something else.

My experince from patients is they either love the Depo or hate it.
If people get side effects they really don't seem to be able to tolerate them well.
On the flip side (and I would say this is at least 80% of patients) get on very well with it, and find it great to only have to remember 1 visit every 11 weeks and better periods.
Remember the Depo injection does not prevent Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

I was on Depo after I had my son. It made me have major mood swings and feel like I had been hit by a Mac Truck. I went to my Doc and He told me it sometimes happens because your body can't handle the shot. It is like your body goes from 0 to 60 with one injection. My Doc had me switch to the implant which worked great. Have your girlfriend make an appointment to see her Doc and go with her to help her explain what she has been going through. The two of you working together on this is a good thing and will help the Doc understand better what is going on with her.

Side effects hit everyone differently. I never gained weight at all while i was on it and i was on it for about 2 years...2 blessed years without a menstral cycle lol. Make sure that you are getting the shots intra muscular, the butt is the best place, but i did get slight hip pain for a few days after each shot. It is common.

Everyone reacts differently to Depo, but one VERY important thing to know is that after prolonged usage (think more than three years), it starts to deplete the strength of your bones. Thats a very important, very severe side effect that you should be aware of and if I were you, I would talk to a healthcare professional about the risks before you go on it.

O.k. I see some dramatic stories on here, but I guess that happens because everyone is different and doen't have the same side effects as everyone. From what I've heard from females they like it. The biggest thing I heard was that you should take a calcium supplement because it does cause a decrease of that in your body.

It turned me into a nasty moody person... I only had it twice and decided enough was enough, the only aching i had was around the top of my hip where i had the injection..
