Who would feel 'more comfortable' and safe if they had a face mask "protector" for the 'fielders' in the game of baseball?
I mean you see sometimes how the pitcher has to bend down to avoid a line drive, if it hit him it could be dangerous...even FATAL.
A BLOW TO THE HEAD.
I guess it is just like anything else, skateboarding or anything, perhaps it really comes down to player's choice.
I mean this day in age we have "high tech" equiptment where as the helmet and mask would be so light-weight and comfortable, that it would not even be funny...
Who we care about would be safer. Be it our 'sons/daughters' or our 'brothers/sisters' or our 'fathers/mothers' on the field. Picture yourself on the mound or standing in center field...there is s FLYING OBJECT COMING.....

Some batters in the Little League World Series come to bat with helmet with a face mask, others a normal helmet so apparently it is optional. College softball players also bat with a face mask.

Honestly, I was a pitcher, and I had been hit many times...once in the top of the head. It's something you are aware of well before you start pitching. It's like anything else...if you play with the thought you are going to get hurt, you will. I am pretty sure that if you ask a pitcher or fielders if they would rather have face protection in the field, 99.9% of them would say no. It's just one more thing to get in the way and distract you.
As an athlete...you trust your skills will take care of you, and the rest is up to fate.
It's a good notion, but it's not something the players would go for...if they would, it probably would have been done already. Personally, I would rather see High School & College kids, using wood bats. If a 16 year old Latin American kid can use a wood bat in the minor leagues...or even an 18 year old kid in the minors, then high school & college most definitely should use them...I am quite sure Easton could make a good wood bat.
