I posted this question yesterday but have now added more details in the hope that someone can help. I have trawled the internet but to no avail for help on the matter and bt's support don't seem to have much of a clue (have you tried turning it off and on etc?....ARRRGHH!!!) and by the time i updated the details it was really far down the list. So i'm hoping some kind person can help...please?
I have managed to break (i think) my bt home hub within hours of setting it up and wondered if anyone could help...I turned it of while it was downloading firmware/updates or something and now it just won't work (or at least I can't get it too) is there anything I can do to fix it?
I have re installed the classic BT voyager thats how i have a connection. The data light is flashing but it goes of for a while then comes back on
oh and i tried the reset button it didn'y work

OHHH!!! NOOO!!! it looks like i'm stuck with the voyager for a while....I am a fool but in my deffence the writing that tells you not to turn it off is about 2mm high and is at the bottom of the page!!!

If you were flashing new firmware and turned off the router in the midst of the process, your probably cooked that goose very well.

It sounds like the thing is new and needed a firmware update. So not fit for it's purpose under tha Sale Of Goods Act. It should be under warranty anyway. take it abck and tell them you want one that works! I think it has to be on to install the firmware update. So maybe that needs installing. personally, I would let the people you got it off worry about that. I bought a linksys and had to download a firmware update - despite it being a "new" model. I think some of this stuff has been around in other countries for years - they get a better model and we get the stuff that won't sell any more - because it needs a firmware update! You can't break a router without doing physical damage to it or connectingit wrongly - and that's about impossible. So the onus is on the supplier to fix it or replace it - the latter preferably. Phone trading standards if you don't get it sorted - if they are useless - compalin about them to you MP. Rip off Britain strikes again!

no u haven't broke it what u need to do is unistall all the bt software and reinstall it do not plug the home hub in until the very last minute but if u have any old bt software still in ur registry it will not work so make sure u have got rid ov it all before u try to install again good luck

I would contact the manufacturer of your router.
Since you just set it up, chances are it's still under warrenty.
Many devices that offer flashable firmware have fail safes built in that will allow you to recover the default firmware.

Do not turn anything off during firmware/BIOS updates! That will cause the device to become an expensive paperweight.

i'm not familiar with your router brand, but here's what i did with a linksys.
hold down the reset button for 20 seconds. this is called a "hard reset." this should reset the router to factory settings. however, if you corrupted the firmware, this probably won't work.

R.I.P chances are you killed it im afraid, maybe if you phone BT and say it never worked in the first place, they might send you a new one?? worth a try
