Some councils run a collection scheme - see if yours do something like this! Otherwise, I think some charities welcome donations of paint. Perhaps you could look in your local library? Please don't just throw them away as they contaminate the environment.

If your grey bin is the recycle, the answer is no. It depends on what is in the paint. If it is latex, you can put it in your blue bin. If it is lead paint, you should take it to a paint store for disposal.

Not sure where you live, but here if it's latex paint and the top is off and the paint dried up hard you can dispose of them with the normal trash. If it's oil-based or aerosol paint it's considered hazardous waste and must be disposed of at the local "clean sweep" day/site.

Call your local sanitation department and ask them.

Do NOT pour it down the drain. It's bad for the environment and you will be fined when it's traced to you.
Is there a free cycle site where you give things away and also take things?
Some recycling centers have a place for partly used paints. Check with yours.
Look for other things to paint.

Depends where you live. I have no idea about the US but in the UK i doubt the council will take them. Have a look in your yellow pages and find your local distributor of industrial finishers i.e Morrells etc. I'm sure that if you just popped into them they'll happily take them off you and dispose of them according to COSHH regulations.

Do NOT put them in the regular trash can. Paint is extremly bad for the enviroment when burned... Call your local hardware store and ask for advice for proper disposal of paint cans and old paint. Sometimes you can take them there and they will dispose of them for you.

These are considered as hazardous materials in the US. There is a special disposal protocol in most cities. I've enclosed a site that may inform you about where in your area you can dispose of this. Good luck!

In Cardiff you aren't meant to throw them in the ordinary bins- not sure about where you are. We take ours down to the tip where they have a special bin for them,

Well done for thinking 'green'. The council might take them at their recycling/waste disposal site...

Was your bin always grey or is that from the paint?
