hi. this is a Telecom socket. i propose you get on to BT and ask them to modify your Telecom field with a clean BT NTE5 faceplate. Most homes in the UK have a British Telecom line to them, but you don't have to trade with them. Perhaps cable is available locally, you could ask your neighbours. I get a good deal on phone, TV and broadband.
Try plugging a phone in and seeing if you can talk to an operator.

Yeah, Ok, must be a forign thing. In the USA we own whatever equipment is attached to our homes and we can use whatever phone company we want to so we can have service.

The T means telephone it isnt the name of the phone co. ask you neighbors which phone co they have as the name is on their phone bill. If you have a phone it is on your phone bill
