1) Freer is not a real word.

2) If you are more free then you have more responsability over your life and decisions so the more free you are the more the responsability is on you to make decisions and act in the right way

When you have the freedom to do what you want, when you what, how you what, you have to make more decisions.

When you are a small child, your parents make them all for you. So all you have to do is eat, sleep, and play. Kids have it good :-)
When you are an adult, you have to work to make money to pay the bills, have a place to live, have a place to sleep, and have food to eat. Now you are bogged down with duties that you never knew existed. The house doesn't clean itself, there's another chore. The laundry needs to be washed, the dishes cleaned. The list goes on and on. We can choose not to do these things, but nobody will do them for us.

In government, we have the freedom to choose our leaders, but we must decide who to vote for. After a few years, if we don't like him/her, we can choose to vote for someone else.
If we had a dictator or monarchy where the ruler was determined for us, we wouldn't have to choose, but we would also be stuck with him/her no matter how horrible he/she is.

being free means being in control of your own destiny. because of this, there are many considerations to be made, compared as to when you were 'imprisoned'.
for one thing, you are in complete control of your actions - you are to account for, for everything that you've ever done. for example, if you took marijuana, you could have always just blamed your parents, saying that they were not good parents, and never cared for you and loads of other crap. however, if you are now over 18, then it's completely YOUR fault, your responsibility, and not somebody else's.
also, if you are now free, then you have to support yourself, as well as others (if there are others) with your own resources. if a colonized country became independent, it has to support itself under a sovereign government. new laws have to made, and the president/monarch/party has to ensure that the government is good for the people.

Place yourself as a pioneer moving West.
Were they not more free than we are today?

What were their responsibilities, compared to today when we depend on government?
