It's a category 5(cat5) cable, and it is plugged into a network or NIC card in your computer. You use this to connect to the Internet via cable or dsl modem, and you can also connect to other computers in your home or office as well.

You can buy the wire at Radio Shack in lengths of up to 100 feet.
When installing the cable to a wall mount, you need to follow the color code for mounting the wires. The diagram with color sequence is usually on the package of the wall plate.

You get one cat 5 cable and connect it from your wall plate to your hub. Then, get another cat 5 cable and connect it from the hub to the NIC card on the computer.
