I don't think there is just one part of the brain that helps us in learning, instead the whole brain has to work in harmony for us to be receptive when learning. I bought a study set a while back which has certain tracks one should listen to whilst studying... at first I thought it was silly but after a while I realized my brain, mind, was more relaxed and alert to what I was studying.
Really in my opinion there isn't just one way of studying, every person differs and as such you should try and experiment with different study methods. I know for some people Mind Maps are just great as they are able to create it once and from that they are usually able to remember most of the information. I usually read the text first, then I'll make some notes on it and once that's done I'll leave it for a while. A day or two later I'll try and reconstruct what I was studying. Obviously the more one repeats it the better.
The most important thing is to get the brain in that receptive state... here are two links that explain it in more detail.
